vcam
vcam is the experimental musical project of James Long. He currently resides in the Twin Peaks backdrop of Snoqualmie, WA, and is an accomplished photographer when he is not creating abstract electronic compositions. Long has the distinction of being the first artist ever signed to n5MD nearly two decades ago and appeared on 3 of the label's first five releases. Long's music as vcam should be categorized as experimental electronic music and is aberrantly "autechreian", often experimenting with his hardware synthesizers to get abstracted alien rhythms and textures. Long took a break from the vcam creative process to focus on family and his photography but recently released a collection of works compiling experiments recorded over a six-year period between 2002 and 2008 (Selected Works, Vol. 1-2). When the pandemic hit, Long decided to put his studio back together and end his 12-year silence by creating the album Arconide (Dec. 2020 - n5MD). Long's music is a true treat for fans of the aforementioned Autechre and shows and admiration for Lexaunculpt, Richard Divine, and Arovane due to the detailed sound design, textures, and experimentation.
