Yulyseus
Yulyseus is a Scottish producer and multi-instrumentalist whose work moves fluidly between ambient, drone, and textural electronic composition. His music unfolds slowly, drawing listeners into immersive sound worlds shaped by layered electronics, bowed strings, and found sound.
Raised in Glasgow and later shaped by extended periods in Berlin and Mexico City, Yulyseus developed a distinctive approach rooted in atmosphere, restraint, and emotional depth. He is now based in Valencia, where he continues to refine his detailed, slow-burning compositional style.
His early demos were championed on Ireland’s An Taobh Tuathail on RTÉ Radio 1, leading to two releases on The Ambient Zone imprint, alongside future n5MD artists ILUITEQ and nostalgic ambient purveyors 36 and Benoît Pioulard. These recordings went on to receive play on the BBC and NHK.
His debut album Non Era was praised for its emotional range and narrative sweep, described as “a journey with lows, highs, uniformity and exuberant moments all entwined into one… a wonder of blissful soundscapes.” This was followed in 2022 by In the Dark Palaces of Both Our Hearts, a darker and more immersive work shaped by displacement, travel, and time spent in unfamiliar environments.
In 2023, he composed the original soundtrack for My Brother Bob, directed by Will Norman, which went on to win Best Feature Documentary at the UK Film Festival. That same year, he held a residency on Glasgow’s Radio Buena Vida, curating and spotlighting emerging ambient and drone artists.
His new album, Nothing Under Heaven, released on n5MD, arrives during another period of international transition. The record reflects an ongoing search for hope, clarity, and meaning in uncertain times, reaffirming Yulyseus’s commitment to patience, deep listening, and emotionally resonant sound.
