Zahn | Hatami | McClure
Uwe Zahn, better known as Arovane, has been at the forefront of futuristic electronica and sound design since the 90s, releasing albums of fractured beats and lush melodies on labels such as DiN, CCO and more recently n5MD. His music defined a particular Berlin-centered aesthetic. Zahn's current output continues to do so, but he has also navigated into more experimental ambient territory in the last few years. This new direction in abstract sound found him collaborating with other artists involved in that genre, including Porya Hatami, Darren McClure, and Hior Chronik.
Porya Hatami is a renowned ambient musician from Iran, blending field recordings and gorgeous melodies into new ambient shapes. His release schedule is nothing sort of prolific; having released his work on labels such as Line, Karl Records, Dronarivm, Tench. He has also collaborated with Zahn on several releases as a duo, with a particular focus on piano-based compositions.
Darren McClure is an Irish, Japan-based, sound artist whose work explores texture and abstracted ambience using a combination of found sounds, synthesis, and processing. He has released both solo and collaborative works on labels such as Dragons Eye, Glistening Examples and Impulsive Habitat. His first collaboration with Hatami was on 2015’s In-between Spaces which resulted in a trio collaboration between Hatami and Zahn on the 2016 album Veerian released on the Eilean label and the 2019 album ypsilon on n5MD.
